About Our Church
On the evening of November 22, 1977, the church was officially
organized under the leadership of *Robert L. Beatty, Sr. The first
worship service of the newly organized church was held November
27, 1977 in the Carl Chavis YMCA gymnasium at 11:00 am with Robert
L. Beatty bringing the message. There were one-hundred twenty-
three (123) persons in attendance.
First United Baptist Church was the name of our church and was
incorporated by the State of North Carolina on July 27, 1978. The first
pastor was hired on September 28, 1978, *Rev. Nathaniel Boykin.
Under Rev. Boykin’s leadership the members purchased land on
Kimery Street and built a beautiful edifice. In 1982 we moved into our
new building.
In 1993, *Rev. William S. Fails was voted in as our full-time Pastor. In
1998, we purchased our new edifice located at 1409 Deep River Road
and our first service in our new facility on July 5th when we became
Greater First United Baptist Church.
In September 2022, a new era began at Greater First United Baptist
Church. Under the leadership of our Deacons and Trustees we have
experienced exceptional Worship Service along with Bible Study and
Sunday School.
